The majority of the Clarence Dillon stable of wines has been released today, lead by the standard bearers Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion.

We were inundated with pre-orders for Haut-Brion so we are currently sourcing as much stock as possible to cover demand. Suffice to say that as we boarded the bus post-tasting back in April, there was a collective silence before somebody quietly volunteered “100 points...” This opinion was swiftly shared and it was clear that we had a consensus on perfection.

La Mission Haut-Brion is available at £3200. Whilst Haut-Brion was typically tight and brooding, La Mission was equally typically exuberant and incredibly expressive. As with the very best of 2015 it sports phenomenal structure but the tannins are so fine, so ripe and so sweet as to render the overall experience utterly ethereal. This has 100 points from James Suckling and 97-99 points from Neal Martin so it certainly ranks with the best wines ever made at the estate.

The second wines were hugely impressive and have ambitious price tags to match: Clarence de Haut-Brion is available at £900 and La Chapelle de La Mission is £640. The latter looks the better buy.

Also released are the whites, which command prices in the stratosphere. We are sold out on Haut-Brion Blanc but we have picked up a little more La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc at £5100, and there is a little of the second wine La Clarte at £640.
