This morning saw the release of a great value trio of St Emilions...

Chateau Berliquet have released their 2016 at GBP 325 and is once again a feature on James Suckling’s Top 100 Bordeaux list, this fine piece of terroir has delivered a superb effort. He said 'Impressive. Let’s see what is better: the 2016 or 2015.' (95-96 points). High praise indeed and is a simply wonderful expression of traditional St-Emilion from one of its most coveted sites.

And Quinault L’Enclos, the new baby brother of Cheval Blanc, is also available at GBP 287. The estate was bought by Cheval Blanc in 2008 and certified fully organic in 2012. In order to promote the great purity of fruit they have developed, winemakers Pierre Lurton and Pierre-Olivier Clouet have encouraged a more restrained, elegant style for the wine with less use of new oak giving a fresher, truer fruit character. The BI team loved it, and love its value even more (93-95 points) - 'really harmonious and beautifully made' were our thoughts upon tasting the wine in April.

Chateau La Gaffeliere at GBP 540. This is without a doubt an up-and-coming St Emilion property with vines located on the lower slopes of the town and overlooked by the exceptional Ausone estate. We like it a lot and the critics certainly agreed with Galloni calling it 'a wine of total finesse and class. I loved it.'

And to Pessac-Leognan... Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion released their red at GBP 300 and white at GBP 271. Fabulous value, again, with the BI team noting that 'the Larrivet Haut Brion 2016 Blanc has a touch more vigor and zip to it compared to other dry white Bordeaux.'
