D'Issan 2016 was released this morning at GBP 570 and it is undoubtedly one of the best ever wines produced at the Chateau. D’Issan have produced a wine which sits qualitatively in line with the ‘Margaux Vintage’ of 2015 albeit in a very different style which means it is one wine which will certainly be worth comparing and contrasting in coming years.

“One of the greatest ever. Superb depth and intensity to this real Bordeaux. Wow.” - 96-97pts James Suckling

From the Von Niepperg stable we have Canon La Gaffeliere at GBP 775 and La Mondotte which was given the potential for a perfect 100 points by James Molesworth of Wine Spectator who referred to it at 'a stunner'. We were pleasantly surprised, too, at the price of this superb Mondotte at GBP 2390.

Lascombes is available at GBP 680 but the critics seem uncertain about its quality and/or potential.

The emerging superstar, Clos Fourtet, was released at GBP 1000. The wine’s biggest cheerleader is James Molesworth at the Wine Spectator, who gives it potential for 99 points and calls it 'A beauty in the making.'

This afternoon saw the release of 'one of the best Le Gays in years' (Suckling) at GBP 1044. We have found Le Gay to be one of the most consistent estates on the Right Bank over the past few years and yet often one of the most overlooked wines from the Pomerol plateau.

Le Gay was closely followed by one of St Emilion's biggest successes in 2016: the remarkable Beausejour Duffau Lagarosse at GBP 1025. This wine was made famous by its 100 point Robert Parker 1990 vintage with this score being matched in 2009 and 2010. We expect that the 2016 won't be far behind as Galloni pointed out 'readers should be prepared to be patient, as the 2016 is going to need time in bottle to be at its best. Even so, it is deeply impressive today. '
