BIX Update

In August we reached an all time high of users listing wines on our website through BIX. In fact, we have grown the list of wines we are able to offer by over 20% thanks to those thrifty clients who have taken the time to work through their collections and identify the wines on which they’ve made the best return, or which they simply don’t think they want to keep hold of any longer. Whenever I look through the website for something fun to buy, or to offer to a client, typically the most exciting stock is listed on BIX!

Why should this be? Well, when a new wine is released, we tend to sell out pretty much completely – and any handful of cases that are left in stock don’t tend to hang around on the list for long. Then, a few years down the line, clients who bought 4/5 cases on release decide they might want to part with a few to fund further purchases (the old sell-to-cover-what-you-drink model). Therefore, the more mature stock comes out of the woodwork and is once again available for those who weren’t fortunate enough to secure it on release. And the best part is it’s spent its whole life since delivery in our perfect storage conditions, so it’s as if we never sold it at all!

(Don’t get me started on the BI storage thing – it’s that good I won’t stop talking about it – best thing to do is read my last blog if you aren’t 100% happy with your current storage provider)

Here are a few nuggets which were lifted from our list over the past couple of weeks (don’t mope about it now!)

Cheval 2005 imperials – ex-Chateau no less

Jacques Selosse Bout du Clos

Troplong Mondot 1990 (if you haven’t tried this then shame on you – you must find some)

Lynch Bages 2008 in magnum – bargain of the century

Giacomo Conterno Barolo Monfortino Riserva 2008

Bouchard Montrachet 2010 – does White Burgundy get much better...?

Here are some superstar wines still available on our list via BIX (at the time of publication)

A case of the 100pt Leoville Las Cases 1986

A case of the 6* (out of five!) Michael Broadbent Leflaive Bienvenues Batard Montrachet 1999

5 bottles of the perfectly-scored Hermitage La Chapelle 1990

A beautiful case of the 2006 Baron de L Pouilly Fume from Ladoucette

A raft of beautiful Italian 2007s including Brunello Montosoli from Altesino, Flacianello from Fontodi and the great Masseto

Do take the time to have a look at what is being offered via BIX here and do have a look at what’s in your cellar to see if you can turn a case or two into something new and exciting.
