The first of the Firsts is unveiled into the market today. Mouton Rothschild have released their 2017 at GBP 4320.

Considered by many to be the King of Cabernet in Bordeaux, Mouton have imbued their 2017 with one of the highest percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon in their history with fully 90% in the blend. This lends the vintage a tight-knit, dense, tightly-wound character that will take time to unfurl. When it does, it will be one of the most serious, elegant, classically proportioned wines ever to come from this estate.

The critics certainly rate this Mouton:

“there's no doubting that this is a great Mouton”Jane Anson, Decanter

“Wow. This vintage is going to be very long-lived in the cellar!” Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate

“unquestionably one of the gems in the vintage.” Jeb Dunnuck

It is less bombastic than the 2016 and 2015, but no lesser wine for that: it reminds us that Mouton has a truly noble terroir capable of delivering wines of extraordinary class and restraint.

This was followed by Leoville Las Cases, always one of our favourite wines to taste En Primeur and in 2017 one of the finest wines of the vintage. The price is GBP 1776.

Pontet Canet 2017 is now available at GBP 1013.Lisa Perrotti-Brown praises its wonderful freshness and spectacular energy”and Jeb Dunnuck calls it “another tour de force from this estate that readers will be thrilled to have in the cellar”.

Also released is the 2017 Haut Bailly at GBP 888.
