Tasting Notes and Scores

Michael Schuster

(79% M, 21% Bouchet)
Floral, herbal, fragrant Merlot nose; rich, fresh, very lightly tannic; sweetly ripe, subtly mineral, straightforward wine, with a lovely freshness and good light length; a delicious, gentle, fleshy prospect in just a few years. Very nice indeed. Not, of course, Lafleur, but a tasty glimpse of the Lafleur team’s winemaking for well under £20 all told! 2023–30+.

Jancis Robinson

79% Merlot, 21% Bouchet (Cabernet Franc). Part of the Lafleur (Pomerol) stable. Cask sample.
Pretty floral-violet nose with plenty of juice on the palate. Rich but sappy with a mineral edge. Tannins long and extremely fine. Clearly GV. (JL)

Tasted by Jane Anson(at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021)

Sinewy, saline, finely-boned and full of peony florals and supple raspberry fruits. You are not getting the typical Bordeaux wine, it has a serious feel and is even a little bit aloof at this point. Dark fruits, tobacco leaf and flowers - you see the sculpting hand of the winemakers, teasing out the clay-limestone freshness from the soils. An unmissable value wine in the vintage. No frost here in 2021. All the Bouchet (Cabernet Franc) at Grand Village is from massal selection at this point.
