For me, Argentina is about capturing that sense of altitude, showing that the wines that are made here just couldn't be made anywhere else. The freshness and precision of this Malbec, backed up by fabulous rich fruit, absolutely nails the brief. Some people think of South American wines as being too heavy or overly rich; this wine will definitely confound those inaccurate expectations.
Today, Sebastián, the third generation of the Zuccardi family, is leading a young team of agricultural engineers and enologists, who are in charge of producing the highest quality wines in the Uco Valley in Argentina. Back in 1963 Sebastián Zuccardi's grandfather planted the very first grapevines in Maipú, Mendoza. Since then the Zuccardi family have continued to develop and expand their winemaking to become one of the leaders in Argentinian wine production. One of the changes Sebastián has implemented is to install a research and development area in the winery in 2008, dedicated to studying the terroir and the diverse variables that affect wine quality. The goal, in Sebastián’s own words, is “not to strive for perfect wines, but wines that express the place, the region.”
José Zuccardi Malbec developed from Zuccardi Zeta is a traditional style and has been going since the winery's first Zeta harvest in 2002. José Zuccardi Malbec reflects José Alberto’s pursuit of overcoming and conviction and Sebastián inherited the determination and desire to constantly strive for excellence from his father, José Alberto Zuccardi and this is more than evident in their wines.
