The 2016 Barbera d'Alba Gabutti is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, incense, tobacco, dried herbs, menthol, graphite and licorice infuse the 2016 with a real sense of brooding, virile power. The 2017 and 2016 Barberas I tasted for this article could not have possibly been more different. If anything, readers might want to cellar the 2016 for a year or two! Many years ago, Baldo Cappellano asked me not to score his wines, so all Cappellano wines show up on our database as NR.
