The 2019 Clos la Madeleine presents a generous nose of ample red currant, cranberry and wild strawberry scents laced with pencil box and subtle musk-like scents. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins and good concentration, and quite fresh thanks to the keen line of acidity. The sapid, peppery finish lingers in the mouth. This Saint-Émilion (distributed via J-P Moueix) should give 12–15 years of drinking pleasure.
The 2019 Clos La Madeleine is deep, plush and super-expressive. Bright acids liven up a core of red berry and blood orange fruit. Floral and spice notes give the 2019 terrific aromatic presence as well. All the elements are so well balanced in this vibrant Saint-Émilion. The 2019 is beautifully done. It's a very elegant, poised Saint-Émilion to enjoy over the next decade or so.
Much of this 2.3ha vineyard has been pulled up since it was purchased by the Moueix family, so there are just tiny amounts available in 2019. However, what you get are creamy raspberry fruits, with brioche smoked caramel oak, all silky smooth until the limestone kicks in and everything slows down to a slate and pumice-stone mouthwatering finish. Love it. Harvest September 29 to October 2.
