Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 La Bernadotte prances out of the glass with showy scents of preserved plums, cassis and cherry cordial, plus nuances of lilacs, tilled soil, cardamom and pencil lead. The soft, supple, medium-bodied palate delivers lovely freshness and soft-spoken flavors with an earthy whisper on the finish.
Lots of wood showing now with good berry character and chewy tannins, which are polished. Medium body. Fresh finish. Needs to fill in.
The nose with its cherry pipe tobacco, currants and cedar notes is quite nice. Medium-bodied, with a shot of juicy black currants and tobacco on the palate and plenty of chewy, ripe, earthy, lively fruits and cedar in the finish are good now, and will be even better with 5-6 years of age. This is the best Bernadotte I have tasted in years. 88-90
