Tasting Notes and Scores

James Suckling

Extremely well done with super integrated tannins. Dark-fruit and chocolate character. Full-bodied, yet intense, linear and long.

Jeff Leve

Dark in color, the wine shows off its licorice, black cherry, wet earth, flower and spearmint centric nose with little effort. Lush, round and polished, with silky tannins and sweet, ripe, soft, pure fruits, licorice and toasty oak on the palate and in the finish. This will be even better with 5 years of age. 93-95

Jeb Dunnuck

The 2020 Château La Confession has lots of oak and cedar notes as well a touch of dryness in its tannins, yet it has good purity of fruit along with complexity. Nevertheless, it’s not one of the standouts in the vintage and is a charming Saint-Emilion to drink its first decade. The blend is 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc, raised in 50% new French oak.

Tasted by Jane Anson(at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021)

This is full-on in its extraction, the nose has layered black fruits, clove and liquorice. On the palate there are meaty and muscular tannins alongside a lathering of gourmet notes, but there is balance here, and overall it is seductive and appealing. 37hl/ha yields. Jean-Philippe Janoueix owner.
