The 2020 La Fleur de Gay sports a deep purple-black color and notes of wild blueberries, chocolate-covered cherries and mulberries, plus fragrant suggestions of candied violets, cinnamon toast and clove oil. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black and blue fruits with loads of spicy accents and a soft, velvety texture, lifted by just enough freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Impressive!

The 2020 La Fleur de Gay has a lifted nose of raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, touches of marmalade and orange peel emerging with aeration, though it never quite coheres as much as I would like. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a slightly chalky texture and a citrus element toward the slightly pinched finish, which at least has commendable delineation. Hopefully it will coalesce during its élevage.

James Suckling

A young red with clarity and transparency. Blackberry and black-truffle character,. Some walnut, too. I like the spice character to this with firm tannins and a fresh finish. Shows energy and focus.

A very pretty, classic Pomerol on all accounts, the 2020 Château La Fleur De Gay boasts a dense purple color to go with ample blue fruits as well as notes of tobacco, leafy herbs, and spring flowers. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum on the palate, I love its purity, and it offers ripe, polished tannins as well as notable balance. It will have 15-20 years of prime drinking.

This is seductive and silky and totally delicious. Powerful rose petal and violet notes, a ripped muscular texture, smoky, juicy and full of definition. A mouthful of Pomerol goodness. Axel Marchal consultant.
