16.5 JR

60% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot. The deepest and bluest of a range 2010-2013 inclusive. They acknowledge it’s the most obviously New World. This was the turning-point vintage. Big and bold on the nose. Lots of alcohol! Very sweet and round with a little bit of char. Bit obvious. Some toasted oak and much more new oak than younger vintages. A little obvious and rustic. 16.5 RH

60% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot. Warm vintage. There’s rich, jammy fruit and sweetness to the nose, then a surprisingly savoury tone to the palate. The oak is clearly very new and impressive, and it perhaps seems a little separate to the fruit, but it isn’t excessive per se. The power and richness of fruit is clearly premium quality, it just isn't developing much complexity at this stage. (RH)
