Tasting Notes and Scores

93-94 JS

A fresh and vibrant second wine of Pavie with ultra-fine tannins and a pretty finish. Lovely length. Lively. - March 2017

The 2016 Arômes de Pavie has a deep garnet-purple color and is a little closed to begin, slowly revealing notes of crushed red and black cherries, raspberry preserves, plum pudding, blueberry pie and prunes with touches of espresso, star anise, cumin seed and wood smoke plus a waft of dusty soil. Full, firm and grainy structured, the rock-solid frame supports all the generous black and red fruit preserves with plenty of exotic spice nuances, finishing long and earthy. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, March 2019

The 'baby brother' of the iconic Chateau Pavie. Funky, wild, aromatic and exotic nose. Palate is intense and broad scaled and coated in a mass of rich tannins. - April 2017

This gushes with boysenberry and blueberry preserve flavors, inlaid with sweet spice and toast accents and backed by a hint of ganache. Offers lots of fruit, but this is ultimately open-knit. For the hedonist crowd. - James Molesworth (WineSpectator.com, April 2017)

The 2016 Arômes de Pavie is a delicious second wine from Pavie. Juicy, succulent and expressive, the 2016 is showing very well today. Racy red and purplish fruit, spice and new leather flesh out in the glass. A wine with striking fruit intensity and no hard edges, the 2016 will be ready to deliver maximum pleasure pretty much upon release. - vinous.com, April 2017

Antonio Galloni

The 2016 Arômes de Pavie, the Deuxième Vin of Château Pavie, is a blend of 66% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon cropped at 42 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 50% new oak. It has a powerful and voluminous bouquet with sweet ripe black cherries, blueberry and a dash of black pepper. The palate is full-bodied with a firm grip in the mouth, a powerful and demonstrative Arômes de Pavie that just needs a little less new oak on the finish. I appreciate the weight and concentration here... it just needs to muster a little more refinement. - Wine Advocate #230, April 2017
