There was no frost in this vineyard in 2017, due to its elevation. Blended of 65% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon from the young vines of Pavie, the 2017 Arômes de Pavie is very deep purple-black in color with an incredibly open, spicy nose with a core of baked plums, blackberry pie and dark chocolate with touches of potpourri, black olives and Indian spices plus a waft of damp soil. The 'baby brother' of the iconic Chateau Pavie. Quite backwards and tight on the nose, with a dark, deep core of intense fruit. Rich with blackcurrant and black plum, but lifted with a raspberry tone that keeps it bright. Nice mid palate. - April 2018

The 2017 Arômes de Pavie includes four hectares on the plateau that was used in the Grand Vin (a change incepted with the 2015 vintage.) This vintage is matured in 50% new oak whereas previous vintages were aged in used barrel barrels only. It has an attractive ripe blackberry and brine-tinged bouquet that is nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, rather dense for a deuxième vin with slightly chalky tannin with a grippy finish with quite a bit of wood tannin on the aftertaste. - vinous.com, May 2018
