This is very rich and powerful with blackberry, blueberry, mineral and stone. Full body, very fine tannins. Very chalky and intense on the finish. Best ever?

The 2015 Barde-Haut has a fragrant bouquet with intense black cherry, cassis and oyster shell aromas that blossom in the glass (just as it did in barrel). The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit laced with white pepper and spices. I appreciate the balance and focus here, the acidity cutting through nicely on the finish lending tension and sappiness. Give this 3 or 4 years in bottle and you will have a very fine Saint-Émilion. Anticipated maturity: 2022 - 2036.

This rising star of St. Emilion, run by Hélène Garcin-Lévêque, is typically made predominantly from Merlot with a dash of Cabernet Franc. Pretty, complex nose with dark fruit, lifted with wild raspberry and spice. Intensely-sweet fruit balanced with juicy, fresh acidity. Well structured and layered with great concentration. (80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc.)

The 2015 Barde-Haut is another wine that is lacking in depth. Today, the 2015 comes across as not fully formed, and I am not sure it will be. The sweet plum, black cherry, menthol, licorice, mocha and spice notes are attractive, but I just don't see the wine's typical depth here.

Tasted blind. Occluded nose and hunt the fruit. Then very pinched end. No fun at all. Bitter, dried-out finish. (JR)
