Tasting Notes and Scores

91 WS

Captures the briary feel of the vintage, delivering a solid core of plum, bitter cherry and black currant mixed with notes of tobacco leaf and pain d'épices. A prominent charcoal spine takes over on the finish. Best from 2016 through 2026.
– James Molesworth (WineSpectator.com, March 2014)

Wine Spectator

90 JS

This is grapey, with licorice and flowers on the nose and palate. Medium to full body with fine tannins and a medium finish. Needs time to open. Better in 2016.
– jamessuckling.com, Feb 2014

James Suckling

90 RP

A masculine, slightly rustic style of St.-Emilion, this dense ruby/purple-hued, medium-bodied 2011 exhibits notes of mulberries, black cherries, earth, graphite and a touch of background oak. It possesses elevated tannins, but a good attack and impressive purity as well as depth. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the next 15+ years. Drink 2016-2031.
– Robert Parker (Wine Advocate #212, April 2014)

Wine Advocate

90 AG

Deep, opaque ruby. Cassis and herbs on the enticing nose, complicated by mocha and toasty oak notes. The palate offers savory, juicy flavors of herbal dark berries, chocolate, coffee and flint. Finishes bright, saline and juicy, with a lingering oaky quality that will need time to resolve.
– Ian D'Agata (vinous.com, July 2014)

Tasted three times with consistent notes, the Beauséjour Becot has a ripe, fruitcake scented bouquet that is clean and delineated although for me, just slightly over-extracted. The palate is sweet and ripe on the entry with chewy tannins, good acidity and substance, the finish a little attenuated but well balanced. Fine. It may evolve more finesse throughout its maturation.
– April 2012

Neal Martin

16.5 JR

Black with dark cherry rim. Ripe and sweet with a touch of vanilla making it sweeter still, brightened by fresh cassis. Very chewy but not tough. Dense, fresh, bags of fruit. Acidity quite pronounced on the finish but should meld reasonably well with time. Drink 2017-2025.
16.5/20 – Julia Harding (JancisRobinson.com)
