Tasting Notes and Scores

97 JS

Impressive dark plums and mulberries with nicely intertwined spices and violets. Attractive leafiness and sweet, earthy depth. The palate has suave, flowing tannins that carry a plush, plump core of dark-plum and mulberry flavors with a seamlessly long, showy finish. Try this from 2022.

James Suckling

94+ RP

Produced from 100% Merlot, the 2015 Bellevue gives up a deep garnet-purple color and quite an earthy/savory nose with tilled soil, charcuterie and roasted nut notions over a core of plum preserves, black forest cake and licorice plus hints of tar and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied with firm, rounded tannins and vibrant fruit expression lifted by a lovely line of freshness, it finishes on a minerally note. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Interim Issue Mid-February 2018, The Wine Advocate

The 2015 Bellevue was a very impressive Saint-Émilion from barrel (the property lying opposite Château Angelus). Now in bottle, it has a very succinct bouquet with precise red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry scents augmented by rose petal and cold stone aromas. I love the mineral undertow that appears only with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, extremely well-judged acidity, still with a patina of new oak to be subsumed but there is real harmony and focus on the finish. What a great Bellevue...do not overlook this gem. Anticipated maturity: 2021 - 2040.

One of the sleepers of the vintage, the 2015 Bellevue (Merlot) offers a striking interplay of dense, dark fruit and the more savory notes that are typical of this cool microclimate in Saint-Émilion. Delineation and precision give the Bellevue much of its distinctive character. There is much to like in this nuanced, super-expressive Saint-Émilion from the de Boüard family. vinous.com, February 2018

On the lighter side for now, with red currant and blood orange fruit, but there’s good flesh on the back end and solid iron and toast notes for range. Should probably fill in a bit more.

Wine Spectator

88-90 BI

An estate revived by the dynamic duo of Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt before being purchased by the De Boüard family. Tight and closed on the nose, just some deep dark fruit. Intense and concentrated with ripe plum, milk chocolate and coffee bean. (100% Merlot.)

Bordeaux Index

16.5 JR

Vibrant and big and crimson. Very vital and direct. Drink 2022-2034.
