Tasting Notes and Scores
Seemingly fully mature, Michel and Dany Rolland’s seductive 2000 Bon Pasteur reveals a dark garnet/plum color along with a big, sweet kiss of soy, cedar, roasted herbs, blackberries, caramelized black cherries, and hints of smoke and kirsch. This fleshy, full-bodied Pomerol reveals low acidity, a savory, broad mid-palate, and a decade of life ahead of it.

Deep ruby. Blackberry syrup, bitter chocolate and espresso on the nose. Superripe, thick and concentrated; chewy and mouthfilling, with impressive extract and underlying structure. Finishes quite long and lush, with substantial but thoroughly ripe tannins. This will make a major mouthful of Pomerol.

Tasted at the chateau with Dany Rolland as part of a vertical. The 2000 Le Bon Pasteur is more introverted on the nose than the 1998, surly black fruits, tightly coiled, a little briary and wild hedgerow. Blackcurrant wine gums developing with time and then a hint of liquorices after five minutes. The palate is full-bodied, firm tannins, real concentration, similar mouthfeel to the 1998 due to the fineness of the tannins and the acidity. The finish has good grip, wonderful poise, blackberry, pain grille, sous-bois and a touch of dried lemon lending it vivacity and an edge. Long-term potential. Tasted September 2009.
