Tasting Notes and Scores
(a 50/50 blend of merlot and cabernet franc) Deep ruby. S exy aromas and flavors of cassis, licorice, chocolate and mint. A juicy, fine-grained midweight that's subtle, stylish and nicely balanced, with tannins that are less aggressive and astringent than many other '09s. Finishes smooth and lively, with an enticing violet quality. This should turn out to be a good buy. IDA

Tasted at Chateau Angelus. This is the first time that the second wine of Angelus has been shown at primeur. It has a creamy nose, rather dominated by new oak at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with dense black fruit interlaced with touches of cigar box and smoke, a more masculine wine than expected with a foursquare, dry finish. Moderate length. Fine. Tasted March 2010.

Essentially the second wine of Angelus, but coming from a separate parcel that no longer goes into the grand vin Angelus, this blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc hit 14% natural alcohol. It is a soft, fruity, front end-loaded wine with plenty of berry fruit, underbrush and herbs as well as a hint of coffee and some loamy soil notes. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Dec 2011
