Tasting Notes and Scores

88 WK

The 2019 Caronne Ste Gemme bursts with aromas of blackberries and currants mingled with subtle hints of loamy soil and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and impressively supple by the standards of this château two decades ago (which I remember well from my student days), this is a fine effort.

The 2019 Caronne Ste Gemme requires coaxing from the glass, a bit backward and broody, but there is plenty of tightly coiled black fruit here. The palate is underpinned by succulent tannins; it feels fresh and vibrant with a keen thread of acidity, though perhaps it is just a little too sweet on the finish? Yet overall, this constitutes a commendable Haut-Médoc.
