Tasting Notes and Scores
A beautifully constructed young Bordeaux with blackberry, walnut, nutmeg, dried herb and bark. Full-bodied with round, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish.

Tight tannins, austerity through the mid palate. Bright fruit on the attack, and this is a well constructed wine with ambition. 2.5% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. A yield of 37.5 hl/ha.

Mineral and red-fruit nose; medium-full, moderately concentrated, fresh in acidity, a very fine dry tannin, an overall supple texture, easy, flowing, fresh red fruit flavor, nicely sustained, with good light scented length to follow; typical Chasse-Spleen, not big, but very good beverage claret without being grand. A sort of lighter version of 2016 in style. Likely to be accessible early. 2024–34+.

The 2020 Chasse-Spleen offers attractive wild strawberry, blackberry and rose petal scents on the nose, which is well defined and very cohesive. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, a smooth texture and cedar and leather notes infusing the red fruit. I am just seeking a little more backbone and grip on the finish of this Chasse-Spleen, although it should still give 15–20 years of drinking pleasure.

The 2020 Chasse-Spleen exhibits aromas of cassis, plums, pencil shavings and dark chocolate, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate that's firmer and more austere than its 2019 counterpart, with powdery tannins asserting themselves on the dry finish.

The 2020 Chasse-Spleen is plump, juicy and easy to like. Ripe red cherry, plum, spice and lavender all meld together in this soft, easygoing Moulis. Not hugely complex, but irresistibly delicious.

Tobacco, herbs, flowers and red fruits combine on the nose. On the medium-bodied palate, this classic styled wine delivers bright, fresh red fruits, soft tannins and a crisp, almost crunchy red berry finish. 88-90

Full bottle 1,242 g. Cask sample taken 6 April. 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 6.5% Petit Verdot, 2.5% Cabernet Franc.
Deep cherry red. Lovely mix of aromas: cassis, cassis leaf and a slightly sweeter damson, plus dark chocolate. Scented and open for an unfinished wine. Firm, chewy Moulis tannins but all in harmony with the fruit, and sufficient freshness to balance. A complete wine that certainly needs time. (JH)

49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 6.5% Petit Verdot, 2.5% Cabernet Franc. Deep cherry red. Subtle aroma of lead pencils, dark-fruited and attractively leafy. More fragrant with air. Some oak sweetness on the palate balances the herbaceous notes, though they are quite marked on the finish. Extremely gentle tannins and lots of freshness. (JH)
