Tasting Notes and Scores
Ripe plum and black cherry, blackcurrant. Big hit of sweet fruit up front, quite firm tannins, good freshness, vibrancy and lift on the mid palate which shows some earthy and floral characters. Clean finish. Balanced. Very good. - April 2019

A solid second wine from La Mission with currants, blackberries and hints of fresh tobacco. Oyster shell as well. Full-bodied with firm and chewy yet fine-grained tannins. Driven and long. - jamessuckling.com, April 2019

The 2018 La Chappelle De La Mission Haut-Brion is a beautiful effort that offers terrific class and purity. A blend of 51.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40.8% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc harvested between the 10th of September to the 2nd of October, its vivid ruby/purple color is followed by attractive notes of cassis, black raspberries, crushed rocks, white flowers, and spice. Incredibly elegant, silky, and light on its feet, it has fine tannins and is already impossible to resist. - jebdunnuck.com, May 2019

The 2018 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 40.8% Merlot, 51.6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.6% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it comes galloping out of the glass with bold notions of blackcurrant pastilles, stewed black plums and boysenberries, with suggestions of chocolate mint, pencil lead and clove oil, plus a hint of scorched earth. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed with juicy black fruits, nicely offset by lovely freshness and ripe, rounded tannins, finishing long and spicy.

The 2018 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is composed of 40.8% Merlot, 51.6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.6% Cabernet Franc, harvested September 10 to October 2. Deep garnet-purple colored, it rocks up with ready-for-business scents of baked blueberries, raspberry compote and warm blackcurrants with touches of fungi, yeast extract, menthol and espresso plus a fragrant waft of red roses. Full-bodied, the palate has wonderful freshness lifting the black and red fruit preserves, framed by beautifully rounded tannins and finishing on a savory note. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, April 2019

The 2018 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion has a lifted, quite floral bouquet with brambly red fruit, briary, pencil shaving and damp moss aromas. I find the wood nicely integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity with a subtle marine/black olive note that becomes more prominent towards the finish. Fine.

The 2018 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is delicate, floral and savory. The aromatics are quite appealing in the Chapelle, but I find the mid-palate a bit lacking in both fruit and freshness. The finish is also both compact and short. My impression is that the wine is not fully put together just yet. The blend is 51.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40.8% Merlot and 7.6% Cabernet Franc.

40.8% Merlot, 7.6% Cabernet Franc, 51.6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvested between 10 September and 2 October. Barrel sample. Mid cherry red. Really juicy and lithe, the tannins folded into the fruit. Lots of freshness and tannic finesse with a spicy firmness at the end. (JH)
