The 2020 Clos Haut-Peyraguey is wonderfully sensual and polished. Lemon confit, passionfruit, pineapple, coconut and a touch of new oak give the 2020 its exotic, alluring personality. Creamy and wonderfully expressive, the 2020 opens nicely with a bit of time in the glass. It has been absolutely terrific in two separate tastings. Tasted two times.

Roasted pineapple, ginger, white peach, flowers and orange, all coated with honey aromas, start the wine off. The wine offers the right balance between sweet and fresh, finishing with vibrant, yellow tropical fruits and vanilla covered with honey and roasted nuts. You find that on the palate and in the sweet fresh finish. 91-93

The 2020 Clos Haut-Peyraguey, cropped at 6hl/ha, has a well-defined nose of wild honey, pressed white flowers, beeswax and quince aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is lively and elegant, offering seductive quince, crème brûlée and fudge notes, and fanning out gently on the finish. Generous, but it needs a little more nerve on the finish.

Pale lemon-gold in color, the 2020 Clos Haut-Peyraguey offers up scents of cinnamon toast, praline and marzipan, over a core of peach preserves and honey-drizzled pears with a touch of baked apples. The palate lends loads of savory nuances with a lively line delivering the long, spicy, nicely balanced finish.

Mid-gold; rich and honeyed to smell; an elegantly balanced mid-weight, fresh, sweet but not markedly so, a hint of complexity, a nice length across the palate, and good length to finish. Clearly a good, but not an exceptional, expression. Succulent, restrained, quite stylish.

Full bottle 1,360 g. Undated cask sample. 95% Sémillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc. Yields just 6 hl/ha. Fermentation in barrels (30% new oak, 70% second use) for 18 months. Bernard Magrez's Sauternes.
Floral aromas. Really positive start with botrytis and floral notes. Long and rich. Seductive and really pretty forward. Complex.

Tasted blind. Perfumed with blossom and ripe lemons, and a touch of vanilla. Sweet and simple on the palate, with a note of apricot but only moderate intensity and freshness. (JH)

Cask sample. Honey, marmalade, lemon rind, sweet spice. Soft on the palate, maybe too flabby to nail the balance. Not much in the way of botrytic complexity either. (RH)

95% Sémillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc. Very pale colour. Translucent at the rim. Citrus notes but otherwise discreet. Sweet and supple with just a hint of botrytis on the finish. Relatively simple so enjoy in its youth. (JL)
