Tasting Notes and Scores
Fully ready for drinking, the wine is medium bodied, with fresh, bright, cool, cherry and red plum notes, coupled with earth and forest leaf, with hints of tobacco. Soft textured, with bright red fruits in the finish, there is reason to age this any longer as it's already just a few months from its 20th birthday. cellartracker.com Nov 2018

-Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide No 7
Clinet's 1999 is surprisingly accessible in the attack, but there is some firm tannin in the finish. The wine is medium-bodied with notes of licorice, blackberry/cherry/currant fruit, some sweet but slightly rustic tannin, and an excellent, broad mouthfeel. The wine is well-made but falls short of being exceptional. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015.
Wine Advocate
The 1999 Clinet is a historically pivotal vintage, since it was the year that Jean-Louis Laborde (Ronan’s father) acquired the estate. It has a lovely bouquet of ripe blackberry, mulberry, pain d’épices and black truffle aromas that feel quite cohesive and focused. The rugged, saline palate is medium-bodied and quite rustic compared to today’s offerings, linear in style and slightly chewy in terms of tannin. A slight monotony is highlighted by the superlative 2016 Clinet tasted alongside. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the estate.
