Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2022 Clos L’Eglise is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, which is a bit more Franc than in the past. Crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, flowers, mint and blood orange are all laced together in a vibrant, sumptuous Pomerol that delivers the goods.

From an incredible terroir in the heart of Pomerol (just across the street from L'Eglise Clinet), the 2022 Clos L'Eglise includes slightly less Merlot than usual and is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. It has a ripe, sexy, full-bodied profile as well ample red, blue, and black fruits, notes of graphite, chalky minerality, and chocolate, ripe, velvety tannins, terrific purity, and a great finish. This classic, opulent, sexy Pomerol is going to drink nicely with just a few years of bottle age yet should evolve for two decades.

Vibrant structure with lots of energy, with blackberry, hazelnut, coffee and walnut aromas and flavors. So vibrant. Rich and layered. Yet remains bright.
James Suckling
Offering up aromas of sweet cherries, berries, spices and new oak, the 2022 Clos l'Eglise is medium to full-bodied, broad and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a vibrant, rather structured mid-palate, concluding with youthfully firm tannins. Incorporating fully 30% Cabernet Franc this year, this is a strong effort, albeit a touch on the liberally extracted side for such a concentrated vintage.

Concentrated, quick build up of tannins through the palate, clear complexity and nuance, this is an enjoyable wine with the Pomerol magic of being approachable soon and yet with the sructure to age for decades. Black truffle, cocoa bean, damson, cassis. A 4.37ha estate on the north part of the plateau, owned by Hélène Garcin-Lévêque since 1997. 3.75ph.

The 2022 Clos l'Eglise is the first vintage blended with 30% Cabernet Franc. It has an intense bouquet with oyster shell-infused black fruit, well-defined and focused, gaining more complexity as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with black fruit tinged with dark chocolate and light graphite notes. With impressive persistence, this Pomerol deserves several years in bottle and should drink well for up to 30 years.
