Tasting Notes and Scores
Blueberry and blackberry character with salt and mineral undertones. It’s medium-bodied with firm, racy tannins and a long finish. Well crafted.
James Suckling
The 2020 Cos Labory is bright and exuberant in the glass. The purity of the flavors is striking. It will be interesting to see if the tannins settle down a bit. Today, they are pretty piercing in their intensity. Raspberry jam, game, iron, licorice, mint and sweet pipe tobacco lend energy and vibrancy throughout. Cos Labory is a touch austere, and yet it has plenty to offer.
Antonio Galloni
Round, ripe, chewy, sweet, and fresh, the wine is medium/full-bodied with an already delicious blast of blackberry, Asian spice and currants in the nose and palate. Cos Labory has really upped their game lately. This makes three solid vintages in a row. 91-93

Displaying a deep purple-black color, the 2020 Cos Labory offers classic cassis, ripe plums and kirsch notes, followed by hints of pencil shavings, red roses and damp soil. The medium-bodied palate has great tension and nice, ripe, grainy tannins supporting the tightly wound red and black fruits, finishing on a lingering mineral note.

Charming, with an unfussy and welcoming focus on blackberry and black cherry fruits, a little soft through the mid palate, but with plenty to recommend for early-to-medium drinking. Not hugely intense although there are plenty of earthy tannins on display, a little surprising when you see the 30 hl/ha yield. Tasted twice.

The 2020 Cos Labory has a relatively lighter but attractive nose of black fruit plus hints of sage and allspice, nicely focused if not quite as complex as the 2018. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, modest weight and just a little attenuation toward the finish. Not bad, but could have been better.

62% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot. Inky crimson. Black-fruited and charry on the nose with a hint of violet sweetness. Big, thickly textured, chewy, and could do with more freshness. The dry, chewy finish is a little a bit abrupt. (JH)

Full bottle 1,295 g. Cask sample taken 2 April. 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot. 50% new oak.
Purplish crimson. Unusually warm, rather sweaty nose. Much looser with less obvious tannin and more green astringency than many other 2020s. Lightish and a bit chewy and stringy. Has the freshness of the commune – perhaps rather too much so. Awkward finish. Not much real fruit concentration.
