Tasting Notes and Scores
Vibrant gold in colour, silky texture, campfire smoke, grilled peach, pineapple, candied ginger, grated ginger, butterscotch, edge of petrol, this is full of complexity and arresting aromatics. A delicious wine with concentration and balance.

Slightly toasted orange rind and vanilla caramel on the nose. Lovely density and unctuousness on the palate, really quite rich and fleshy with peach, sweet pineapple and toasted almond notes on the palate. Mouthwatering and racy, but also textured, balanced and structured. A great effort with excellent ageing potential.

The 2021 Coutet needs time to cohere in the glass, eventually offering scents of dried honey, pressed flowers and quince. It just needs a little more pizzazz. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity and good weight and tension, showing the energy that is slightly lacking on the nose at the moment. Maybe it could benefit from more unctuousness on the finish, but this remains an enjoyable Barsac that will gain complexity with bottle age.

The 2021 Coutet is a real success in this challenging vintage, evoking aromas of dried apricot, pineapple, spices and ripe orchard fruits. Medium to full-bodied with a delicate, fleshy texture, the consequence of noble rot, this sweet wine is lively, with bright acids and a long, lingering, penetrating finish.

Lots of honeyed orange, caramelized pineapple, and honeyed flower notes emerge from the 2021 Château Coutet, a medium-bodied, pretty, vibrant Barsac with plenty of character. It should easily be an outstanding wine.

Pale gold. Intense but restrained with floral-citrus notes. Palate svelte and textured but with drive and precision. Botrytised sweetness but with a lingering, tangy freshness. Embryonic but good potential. (JL)

75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc, 2% Muscadelle. Mid gold. Intense, ripe apricot fruit with great freshness to balance, and with so much flavour at moderate alcohol. A gentle tannic grip adds complexity to the thick, creamy depths. Deep and long. (JH)
