Tasting Notes and Scores
Firm and linear red with medium body and fine, sleek tannins. Juicy finish with a chalky mouthfeel. Fresh and attractive.

The 2022 Desmirail confirms my expectations for it during the en primeur tasting. Revealing a complex, elegant bouquet of flowers, dark wild berries, mulberries and spices mingled with delicate notes of sweet berries, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and enrobing with velvety, delicate tannins and a long, ethereal and violet-inflected finish. This blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc is a real success and retains enormous appeal.

Ruby plum in colour, this is vibrant but not too intense, clear coffee notes, ripe plum and raspberry puree fruits. Plenty of tannins, and fresh acidities, an enjoyable Desmirail, bitter on the finish as is often the case in 2022.
Decanter
The 2022 Desmirail offers up a lovely bouquet mingling tobacco, cassis, wild berries, spices and a touch of well-integrated toasted oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and supple palate that's fleshy and sapid, concluding with a refined finish. It’s a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc.

The 2022 Desmirail is quite aromatic and savory in this vintage. Dried herbs, flowers, mint, pipe tobacco and crushed red berry fruit all grace this mid-weight, perfumed Margaux.
Antonio Galloni
A medium-bodied, elegant, graceful Margaux that does well in the vintage, the 2022 Château Desmirail offers an exotic style in its red and blue fruits as well as complex notes of sandalwood, spice, and flowery incense. Medium-bodied on the palate, supple, and elegant, with nicely integrated tannins and acidity, it should shine with just short-term cellaring.

50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep crimson. Sweet and spicy, distinctive in this line-up. Sweetness of mulberries. Sweet and rounded on the palate, too. Almost chalky in tannin texture. Relatively gentle tannins in this vintage but all in harmony. (JH)

50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Dark crimson. Fragrant, Margauxish nose then a tad pruney/dried-fruit character on the palate with some quite dry tannins. Not quite juicy enough but it should soften to give a bit more pleasure. Chunky rather than ethereal at the moment. (JR)

The 2022 Desmirail does not fully capture the finesse I discerned on the 2021. It shows signs of overripe fruit that detracts from the delineation. A second bottle was oddly subdued. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, a bit green around the edges, with a slightly raw finish. No idea what is going on with this wine that seems to have entered a purple patch recently. Was there a blocked maturation this year? A third bottle simply reconfirmed the first two.
