The vineyards at Ducru run almost down to the Gironde, lying between those of Beychevelle to the north and Latour, in the commune of Pauillac, to the south.This highly regarded St. Julien is one of Bordeaux's true aristocrats with a history of wine making heading back to the mid-fourteenth century. Given a deuxiemes cru classification in 1855, the château is rightly held in similar regard to the neighbouring Leoville estates. However it is the modern era (post 1990 and particularly in the 2000s and onwards) that is really becoming the defining period for Ducru Beaucaillou. Since 2008, it carries an average Wine Advocate score of 95+, a sure sign that this is a winegrower at the very top of his game. Compound this reputed estate with its flamboyant, charismatic estate manager Bruno Borie and you have a winning partnership.
