As often the case with Duhart, this shows much better in bottle than out of barrel. It has superb intensity on the nose with blackberry, a touch of tobacco and roasted herbs, still taut and deserving another five or six years to open up. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, good weight and structure, masculine and rather foursquare on the finish. It is reluctant to show it true character at the moment so wait. Drink 2012-2020+ Tasted November 2008.

(a 72/28 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Good ruby-red. Cassis, blackberry, minerals and flowers on the nose. More backward than the Carruades, but with no more supporting density of material this comes across as austere, even severe, today, with distinctly medicinal cabernet-dominated flavors. Offers sound acidity and notes of licorice and fresh herbs. This will require some patience.
