I remember how delicious this was at en primeur, and it remains a stately, elongated, perfectly poised Pauillac. It's austere, certainly, but is also full of rich fruit pared down by a slate texture, the sense of minerality scraping along the palate as you approach the blackcurrant leaf and tobacco finish. The 2016 Duhart-Milon has a pure, well-defined bouquet of blackberry, briar and crushed stone aromas, all very focused and penetrating. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and perhaps more approachable than the Duharts of the past, more malleable in the mouth. Quite rich in style considering the property in question, yet there is wonderful salinity toward the caressing finish. Excellent. 13% alcohol.

Duhart Milon borders Lafite and, being under the same ownership, benefits from some of the finest winemaking know-how in Bordeaux. Pure, vibrant nose - blackcurrant, spice, orange citrus. Fine character, plush mouthfeel, deep black fruit, sumptuous mid palate - oak needs to soak in a little but overall very fine. - April 2017

The 2016 Duhart-Milon is an attractive midweight wine. Floral aromatics and soft, silky tannins give the wine its gracious personality. Dark cherry, plum, lavender and new leather all develop in the glass, but above all else, the 2016 is a gentle, subtle Pauillac that shows the more understated side of the year. I imagine it will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. Today, the Duhart is perhaps just a touch narrow in its construction.
