Tasting Notes and Scores

95 JS

This is classical in style with lead pencil and sweet tobacco to the currant and plum undertones. Warm and cool at the same time. Full-bodied, tight and reserved with very polished, creamy tannins. It goes on and on. Compact, creamy texture.

James Suckling

The 2017 Duhart-Milon is a wine that I expressed reservations towards out of barrel. Since then, the nose has certainly come out of its shell with blackberry, raspberry, briary and light mint aromas, although there is something of the Duhart "DNA" that is absent. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a potent graphite character coming through... A-ha, not here is the Duhart signature! The acidity is nicely tuned and (like the Carruades de Lafite), there is a pleasant briny/marine character towards the finish. That said, it just needs more cohesion and finesse on the finish to really convince that it is a top-flight Duhart. www.vinous.com

A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot, the 2017 Duhart-Milon is beautifully scented of crushed red and black currants, black raspberries and spice cake with suggestions of lavender, cloves and rose hip tea. The palate is medium-bodied, very soft and elegant with seamless freshness and a lingering spiciness on the finish.

Duhart Milon borders Lafite and, being under the same ownership, benefits from some of the finest winemaking know-how in Bordeaux. Ripe black cherry and blackcurrant, with a touch of white stone. Palate is a little disjointed but shows some attractive fruit and finishes dry and clean. - April 2018

Bordeaux Index

16.5 JR

Deep greyish crimson. Delicately sweet ripe fruit but with the graphite savour of the vintage and all the good Cabernet. Tannins are fine-grained but the overall effect is a rather flat mid palate, not hollow but no very lively. Smooth but somehow lacking vitality on the mid palate. Persistent, still. - Julia Harding, jancisrobinson.com, April 2018
