Chateau Feytit-Clinet, Pomerol

Colour: Red
Vintage: 2017
Region: Bordeaux, Pomerol
% Alcohol: 14.99

Chateau Clinet, the Pomerol property owned by the ambitious Ronan Laborde, has been producing exceptional wine for over two decades. Breaking the mould is the Clinet way. Ronan and Monique Laborde have never shied from doing things their own way, with a sense of style and personality. Starting out very young at the property, Ronan took some time to develop his craft and as each year passes his respect for, and understanding of, the vineyard and its origins increases. Whilst the vintages that put this property on the map were the 1990 and 1989, receiving massive critical acclaim, the Laborde’s more recent investments in the winery and vineyard have created a more consistent, and consistently excellent, wine which stands shoulder to shoulder with its esteemed neighbours..

Tasting Notes and Scores

93-96 AG

A wine of real distinction and class, the 2017 Feytit-Clinet possesses tremendous intensity and exceptional balance. Inky black cherry, lavender, charred earth and licorice, along with potent tannins, give Feytit-Clinet its explosive rich personality. As always, Feytit-Clinet is an especially virile, tannic Pomerol. All the elements are wonderfully fused together. The 2017 was tremendous on each of the three occasions I tasted it. In a word: Superb.

Aromas of plums and spice and light chili character. Full-bodied with rich, chewy tannins. The wood is a little predominant now, but this will show nicely with age, as it all comes together.

The present blend of the 2017 Feytit Clinet is 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Very deep purple-black in color, it gives up crushed black plums, blackberries and mulberries with hints of spice box, sandalwood and wood smoke. The palate is medium-bodied, firm, chewy and quite earthy in the mouth with just enough freshness and those spices reemerge on the finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, erobertparker.com, April 2018

The 2017 Feytit-Clinet has quite a complex bouquet with red berry fruit, a touch of seaweed and smoke. It is not as powerful as the previous two vintages although it displays impressive focus. The palate is very refined on the entry, silky smooth in texture (as usual) with a fine bead of acidity. It just needs to manifest more precision towards the finish but that will hopefully develop during its barrel maturation. I have been a big supporter of Jeremy Chasseuil’s often over-looked Pomerol and though, this is not from his top-drawer, it still shows potential. I am prudent with my assessment for now. - vinous.com, May 2018

Deep greyish crimson. Charry dark fruit on the nose. Plenty of black fruit though the oak is rather apparent at the moment. Tannins are compact but smooth, just a little sour and hard on the finish. - Julia Harding, jancisrobinson.com, April 2018
