Tasting Notes and Scores

Good medium ruby. Ripe black cherry and licorice aromas. Moderately sweet and rich, with dark fruit and licorice flavors framed by spicy oak. The persistent, firm finish features a note of bitter chocolate. Very typical Figeac, hinting at cabernet but showing a pliant texture in the style of the year.

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Figeac is a disappointing wine that really puts into context how far this estate has travelled in recent years. The aromatics take a while to really coalesce, eventually offering herbaceous red and black fruit, melted tar and bell pepper aromas, the latter emanating from the Cabernet component. The palate is medium-bodied with rather brittle tannin, very masculine in style with a firm backbone, but it comes across as rather mean and raw on the finish. I would be drinking bottles in the near future. Tasted February 2017.

Dark healthy crimson. Sweet and quite rich. Still embryonic. One of the more convincingly youthful right-bank wines. Lots of interesting evolution to come here with both interesting fruit and structure. (JR)

Fine, leafy scent. Inviting and subtle. Dry, tight, fresh and a bit laced up at the moment but good balance and sweet length. (JH)

35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot. Garnet with brick at the rim. Red-berry notes with a minty, chalky edge. Lighter weight to the palate but fresh and digeste . Promises less going forward but very agreeable now. (JL)
