Tasting Notes and Scores
Lovely, pretty fruit to this with a medium to full body and round tannins that fold nicely into the wine. It’s rich and layered. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc.

The second wine of Château Nenin, the 2020 Fugue De Nenin checks in as 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc brought up in just 20% new French oak. It offers a dense purple/plum color as well as solid aromatics of ripe black cherries, currants, chocolate, and leafy herbs. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with plenty of mid-palate depth, this concentrated, powerful second wine will keep for 15 years.

Deep violet colour, the fruit is kept in play by low temperature fermentation and careful extraction showcasing the seductive, silky aspect of Pomerol. Crayon and slate, set against berry fruits. Harvest September 10 (one week earlier than 2019). 20% new oak. A yield of 36hl/ha, around 25% lower than usual. 20% new oak, 3.63pH.

Bright, fresh, juicy, lifted and fruity, the wine focuses on its core of lifted, sweet, ripe red fruits, savory herbs and flowers. Drink this with pleasure while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. 89-91

Composed of 90% Merlot (harvested 10th to 17th September) and 10% Cabernet Franc (harvested 21st to 22nd September), the 2020 Fugue de Nenin is aging in French oak barriques, 20% new. It has an alcohol of 14.1%, a pH of 3.63 and an IPT (tannin index) of 72. Deep purple-black colored, it sashays out of the glass with open-knit, showy scents of fresh black cherries, black raspberries and plum preserves, plus hints of allspice, potpourri and dusty soil. The medium-bodied palate is soft, juicy and refreshing, delivering loads of spicy sparks on the finish.

The 2020 Fugue de Nénin comes from vines located off the plateau, picked September 10–17 for the Merlot and September 21–22 for the Cabernet Franc. Raised in 20% new oak, it has an open-knit, appealing bouquet of black cherries, wild strawberries and light saline/marine scents. The palate is medium-bodied with quite angular tannins on the entry but fine acidity; that fresh marine influence dictates the finish. Moderate length. Give this a couple of years in bottle and then drink over the next 15–20 years.

The 2020 Fugue de Nénin is an absolutely delicious second wine. Juicy dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice, new leather and licorice all flesh out in this succulent Pomerol. Best of all, the 2020 will drink well upon release. It's a real charmer, that much is obvious.

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Juicy and expressive with gourmand fruit and a meaty, savoury edge. Supple tannins give it early accessibility. Maintains freshness but there is a glow of alcohol on the finish. (JL)
