Tasting Notes and Scores
lueberry and plum aromas here with some flowers and hot stones, too. Complex. Medium body. Juicy fruit in the center palate. Soft, refined tannins and fresh acidity. Lovely complexity and focus.
James Suckling
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Gazin has a beautifully fragrant nose of potpourri, chocolate-covered cherries and spiced mulberries with a core of warm plums and cherry cordial plus a waft of wild blueberries. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a firm frame of ripe, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy.

Of the Pomerol estates fortunate enough to be located on the famous 'plateau' of blue clay, Gazin is arguably the best value and quality has rocketed in recent years. Ripe, red fruit, mineral, quite attractive. Plush fruit up front on the palate with ripe dark cherry and plum fruits. Cool mineral characters flow through the mid palate onto the clean, dry finish. - April 2018

The 2017 Gazin has a very classic Pomerol bouquet with black brambly fruit infused with black truffle and subtle raspberry confit notes. Then, as it opens, there are loamy aromas that lend more complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin and a fine bead of acidity. There is a slightly powdery texture, feeling quite saline. White pepper and fennel notes become more conspicuous towards the finish. Just a classic Gazin from proprietor Nicolas de Bailliencourt and his team.

Focused, with cherry and cassis notes driving through, flanked by singed vanilla accents and a light briar edge. Just a touch toothy through the finish, but should fill out well enough. - James Molesworth (WineSpectator.com, April 2017)

The 2017 Gazin is medium to deep garnet-purple colored and scented of warm red plums and black forest cake with touches of forest floor and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, soft, rounded and mouth-filling, it gives good expression and depth. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, erobertparker.com, April 2018

Deep crimson. A little meaty on the nose, but with a definite graphite note and sweet black plum. Firm and dry but the fruit is there for a balanced whole. Persistent, too. - Julia Harding, jancisrobinson.com, April 2018

95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Deep cherry red. Sweet and malty aromas but with a lifted red-fruited note to keep it lively. Grainy tannins are really smooth and flattering. Generous rather than elegant but full of fruit and flavour and the tannins are just right. (JH)

Tasted blind. The nose is very awkward at this stage, with a green, tinned-pea note. It is hard to discern exactly why this is, but it is fairly consistent from two bottles opened. Quite silky and well-structured on the palate but the fruit profile is still somewhat jarring as on the nose. The finish is cedary, driven and shows some juicy fruit. (TP)
