The 2009 Giscours has a generous and complex bouquet with well defined blackberry, cedar, mocha and light ferrous notes, more like a Saint-Julien than Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, fresh and vibrant with curry leaf and graphite. A dash of white pepper pops up towards the finish. This is the finest Giscours I have tasted in my professional career. Succulent and sexy with an inky/purple color, it offers sweet aromas of subtle barbecue smoke, graphite, blackberries, blueberries, and spring flowers. The tannins are remarkably sweet, substantial, and well-integrated, and the wine is full-bodied as well as voluptuously textured. It is a head-turning, exuberant, flashy effort that should drink well for 20-25 years. Bravo! (Tasted three times.)

Good dark red. Blackberry, licorice, leather, chocolate and a whiff of peat on the nose. Intensely flavored, fine-grained and lively, with noteworthy energy to its dark berry and dark chocolate flavors. A firmly built wine in a rather cool style for the year, finishing with chocolatey tannins, a lightly herbal quality and very good length. Very well done.

Purple-ruby. Sexy oak-dominated aromas of cassis, clove, black pepper and lead pencil, plus a strong espresso component. Enters very rich and smooth, with lively acids nicely lifting the superripe black fruit flavors. The very long finish features a pleasant peppery coffee note and pliant though assertive tannins. This well-made wine, which will need time, is in a big, rich, ripe style that isn't easy to recognize blind as a Margaux.

The 2009 Giscours has a medium to deep garnet color and delivers evolved prunes, baked blackberries and fruitcake scents with an earthy, dried herbs and potpourri undercurrent plus a waft of sweaty leather. The medium to full-bodied palate has a rugged frame of chewy tannins and a firm grip on the somewhat rustic finish.

[53CS/40M/7CF] Dense and minerally to smell, with just a touch of Cabernet Franc herbaceousness / spice / cedar; a refined middleweight wine, fresh, moderately concentrated, and with very refined tannins; sweetly ripe, nicely padded, very graceful in style, subtly complex and with first rate length. A sweetly stylish and very Margauesqe Giscours. 2018-30

Round and polished and a pleasant drink but obviously simpler than most of the wines in this collecion of 2009 bordeaux. (JR)
