Tasting Notes and Scores

93 RP

The 2015 Grand Mayne is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with an earthy nose of damp soil and fungi with a core of red and black plums, black berries and dried herbs. The full-bodied mouth is rich and earthy with a firm structure and plenty of freshness, finishing long. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Interim Issue Mid-February 2018, The Wine Advocate

The 2015 Grand Mayne is powerful, ample and racy, with notable textural breadth and resonance. Super-riper red cherry, tobacco, mint, orange peel and spice all develop in the glass. Forward and sumptuous, as it was from barrel, Grand Mayne is gorgeous today. Michel Rolland and Louis Mitjaville consult. vinous.com, February 2018

Antonio Galloni

92-94 NM

The 2015 Grand Mayne has a ripe small, dark cherry and mulberry scented bouquet, very perfumed with cassis scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very elegant and poised, part of a new style of Grand Mayne that is much more refined than the vintages of the 1990s and 2000s. In a word, what Jean-Antoine Nony and his team have made here is a "stylish" Saint Emilion.

A tight and silky red with berry, chocolate and black-tea character. Full-bodied, tight and integrated. Fresh finish. Drink in 2020.

James Suckling

90-92+ BI

An estate spread across two distinct St. Emilion terroirs – clay/limestone and sand/clay – Grand Mayne is run by the ancient Bordelais family Nony. Big, rich and ripe style, with dense structure and powerful dark fruits – still with juicy acidity.

Bordeaux Index

89-92 WS

Nicely packed together, with juicy raspberry and plum paste flavors buttressed by licorice and ganache. Shows some energy through the finish, but this is more about heft than grace.

Wine Spectator

16.5 JR

Savoury, toasty, fun on the nose with lots of fruit. Big and broad and not the subtlest but with massive sweet fruit. Drying end - very.
