Tasting Notes and Scores
Medium ruby. Blueberry and licorice aromas are complemented by graphite, cedar and loam. Sweet and nicely delineated but a little light, with medicinal flavors of dark berries and flinty licorice. In a shell now but shows decent underlying density and fine-grained tannins. Finishes with chewy tannins and good length. One of the lightest Gruauds in memory, but this balanced wine should offer plenty of early appeal.

The 2013 Gruaud Larose feels a little smudged on the nose compared to others - more red fruit than black, light floral tones but it needs more detail. The palate is better with slightly dry tannin, moderate weight in the mouth and a pinch of spice, though it comes across as an easy-drinking Gruaud best consumed within the first 10 years of its life.

Invitingly aromatic – sweet cassis, cedar, light touch of chocolate. Chalky textured and pretty light on the palate. It's fresh, gentle but doesn't have great length. (JH)

77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. Pale garnet. Charry, liquorice notes on the nose but not much charm. Lightweight palate with a limited depth of fruit. Drying finish. Best to drink up. (JL)
