Tasting Notes and Scores

90 NM

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Langoa Barton has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, autumn leaves, truffle and salted licorice scents that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious entry and a gentle grip in the mouth; it's quite a compact Saint Julien, which suggests that it could be one of the long-term bets. There is just a touch of bitterness on the finish, but otherwise this has good potential. Tasted February 2017.

Good deep ruby-red. Aromas of redcurrant, tobacco leaf, licorice and cigar box, with herbal and peppery nuances emerging with air. Juicy and penetrating, displaying very good cut to its currant and herb fla vors. In the often leanish style of 2007 but juicy and nicely intense. Finishes a tad dry.

The dark-colored 2007 Langoa Barton may be too angular, austere, and excessively extracted. This masculine, hard wine may or may not settle down, but it is not a style of wine that’s conducive to the lightness and charm of a vintage such as 2007. Time will tell. Forget it for 3-4 years, and keep your fingers crossed.

Deep core with soft bricky rim. Sweet, meaty and seductive. Rounded but still with a nice tannic framework. Smooth finish with dark fruit lingering to a savoury aftertaste. (JH)

Crimson. Some oak is evident here as well as luscious fruit. It’s not the most classic example and the finish is decidedly awkward. (JR)
