Tasting Notes and Scores
A firm, linear red with blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavors. Medium body and very fine, racy tannins. Pretty length to this. Structured. Best of the trilogy?

A blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 La Cabanne has a deep purple-black color and notes of ripe, juicy black plums, fresh blackberries and black cherry compote, plus hints of star anise, clove oil and sandalwood with a touch of lavender. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of rich, ripe black fruits, supported by velvety tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long with a spicy kick.

Floral in character, with additional nuances of earth, cherries, plums, licorice and kirsch start things off nicely. The wine is sexy, silky, soft and sweet, with a refined textural finish. Since 2015 La Cabanne has been upping their game and the 2020 is no exception. 91-93

Lots of ripe, lifted cassis and black cherry fruits as well as spice, licorice, and chocolate notes emerge from the 2020 Château La Cabanne, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a plush, layered texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's certainly an outstanding wine and should be in the same ballpark as the 2016, 2018, and 2019.

The 2020 La Cabanne has a very intense bouquet of black cherries, black truffle and light violet aromas, plus just a touch of blood orange in the background. The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit and a touch of white pepper and truffle, gaining weight on the midpalate and culminating in one of the spicier finishes you will find in Pomerol. This has good potential and may well end up at the top of my banded score.

A little austere, clear richness to the black cherry fruit and grilled cedar edge but things lose momentum through the mid palate. You will find more powerful Pomerols; but they have clearly worked to not push extraction, and this is easy to enjoy, with a slow build to the tannins that is attractive. A yield of 37hl/ha. No added sulphur during vinification.

Full bottle 1,331 g. Cask sample. 96% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc.
Very dark with purple rim. Lifted red and black fruits on the nose, with a hint of cough linctus. Oaky and a little charry too. Ripe and fresh at the same time, giving a sweet-sour finish. Nice freshness to balance all that fruit. Straightforward but should gain complexity in the bottle. Tannins already smoothed by the oak. (JH)
