The Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey has a mineral-led, citrus-driven bouquet that is tightly wound at first - delicate touches of orange blossom and apricot emerging from the glass. The palate is well-balanced and attired with a mellifluous, spicy entry. There is certainly good weight and concentration here, the finish long and satisfying, perfectly controlled. This is always a dark horse Sauternes and in 2013 they have produced something a little bit special.

Pale-medium yellow. Subdued but complex aromas of fresh fruit cocktail, mango, menthol and sweet spices. Then rich, spicy and precise in the mouth, with fresh tropical and citrus fruit flavors. A lovely, elegantly styled, nicely balanced wine that is less rich and sweet than usual. This will match well with many scallop, shrimp, carrot and pumpkin dishes.

The 2013 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is one the more powerful, intense Sauternes of the vintage. Lychee, mint, dried flowers and yellow stone fruits flow through to the intense finish. The 2013 shows plenty of depth, but perhaps a little less in the way of finesse.

As well as sweet citrus and honey there is a soapy character here that doesn't sit well in the flavour range. Thick and gloopy on the palate. Rather a lumbering Sauternes. (RH)

Tasted blind. Strong note of glue at first, marzipan. Almonds on the palate too. Not a powerhouse but sweetness and acid are balanced. (JH)
