The 2014 Lafleur-Pétrus is one of the most captivating wines of the vintage for the way it marries power and finesse. Soaring aromatics open up in the glass, with scents of sweet herbs, rose petals, juniper berries, mint and raspberries. Huge and resonant on the palate yet with remarkable nuance, the 2014 is all about harmony. The magnificent, layered finish proves to be utterly irresistible. In 2014 the blend is 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, taken from the three sites that now constitute the entirety of the property. The combination of mostly gravelly soils with some clay and iron yields a Pomerol of pure pedigree.

Earthy and savoury, gently fruity and floral. Nice feeling of easy enjoyment about this, not plush or as full as some, but not as tart and lacking as others, a nice balanced, harmonious palate with fragranced fruit, delicate but enjoyable spice that lingers on the tongue and a long elegant finish. I really like this. It has style, it's light, but you really feel they didn't over try here and it's all the better for it.

The 2014 La Fleur Petrus is impressive out of barrel and it continues to evince quality now in bottle. It has a lovely, engaging bouquet with vivacious redcurrant and cranberry fruit, superb mineralité and energy, real focus and a sense of drive in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a sense of symmetry and poise from start to finish. It has perhaps turned into a slightly more elegant and feminine wine than I anticipated, less bullish than the Hosanna. This comes out at the finish with dark berry, cherry and mineral character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Solid and structured. Shows potential.

Showing well, the 2014 Château La Fleur-Pétrus is round and layered, with lots of truffly, floral notes as well as fine tannins on the palate. Medium-bodied and elegant, it has a seamless, supple mouthfeel and a refined, pretty style best enjoyed over the coming 12-15 years.

Love the caressing, grilled soot and campfire of this, a litlte more intrusive on these notes than you would find in La Fleur Pétrus today perhaps, buts it is backed up by rich fruits, blackberry, lemongrass, smoked earth, good balance and a ton of appellation typicity. 50% new oak.

Racy and dense and lively. Lots of density and lift too. Correct and dense. Slightly inky finish. A hint of green on the end.

Tasted blind. Deep core, bricky rim. Lots of minty/leafy lift with undergrowth coming through. But there’s decent depth of fruit and the tannins are smooth and compact, still resolving. (JH)
