Sumptuous and stylish, this, like many of the best in 2020, is quietly confident showing just enough structure and seriousness while still being joyous and sensual. Blueberries, pomegranates and raspberries comprise the clear and crystalline fruit with cooling minty freshness alongside touches of dark chocolate and licks of medicinal and exotic spices. Tannins are supple and just chewy, giving the perfect weight to the palate with a wet stone aspect to the long finish. Totally moreish, I adore this wine. Drinking Window: 2028 - 2050

A blend of 93% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2020 La Fleur-Petrus has a deep garnet-purple color. It is quite closed to start, soon unfurling to offer glimpses of notes of redcurrant jelly, fresh black cherries, and juicy blueberries, followed by touches of red roses, wood smoke, and crushed rocks, plus a hint of dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied and chock-full of rich, decadently fragrant black fruits, supported by fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long with a mineral lift. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of minty blackberries, loamy soil, black truffles and petroleum jelly, the 2020 La Fleur-Pétrus is full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a rich, layered core of fruit framed by supple, polished tannins, concluding with a broad, licorice-inflected finish. As in 2019, it outshines Trotanoy as the star of the Mouiex Pomerol portfolio.

Complex, spicy, herbal-tinged, and mineral-backed Merlot; rich, vigorous, concentrated, firmly tannic La Fleur-Pétrus, a fine, firm, long-term constitution; an abundance of sweet yet freshly ripe fruit, long and close-grained across the palate, mouthcoatingly fragrant, elegant, sweet, sappy, very tenacious and aromatically satisfying and with striking length. A great expression of the vineyard, a most beautiful La Fleur-Pétrus! 2035–60+.

The 2020 La Fleur-Pétrus is quite simply a class act. It delivers a compelling bouquet with black fruit, crushed stone, iris flower, light sea spray scents, freshly tilled loam. Wonderful precision. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-sculpted tannins, a perfectly-judged line of acidity, discretely building towards a mineral-rich finish. I can see this just closing down for a period, so keep a cellar handy. Feb 2023

The 2020 La Fleur-Pétrus is a gorgeous, polished wine. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, blood orange and pomegranate lend tons of immediacy and primary fruit character. Suave on the palate, with exquisite length, La Fleur-Pétrus is a wine of total sensuality. In 2020, ripeness is pushed to the edge, while the new oak is a bit present. Bright acids and sweet floral notes linger on the long, beautifully delineated finish. This is a bit more extroverted than I remember en primeur, but superb just the same. Feb 2023

Alluring, with velvety plum and boysenberry reduction notes that glide through, picking up black tea, incense, graphite and warm earth along the way. Reveals a lovely tobacco echo at the tail end. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2036. JM March 2023

93% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Cask sample. First sample: a little flat (oxidation?). Second sample: fresher, the fruit very much to the fore, the nose fruity and expressive. Plentiful but fine, filigree tannins ensure a refined but present structure. Freshness and overall harmony. Good potential. (JL)

One of the most powerful and significant La Fleur-Petrus I have ever tasted with incredible depth and power. It’s full and so layered with fine and intense tannins. It shows very dark fruits, dark chocolate with hazelnuts, and milk chocolate with almonds. This will age for eternity. Nov 2023

The finest vintage from this address I've ever tasted, as well as a perfect wine, the 2020 Château La Fleur-Petrus reveals a dense purple hue to go with a deep, layered, full-bodied, yet flawlessly balanced style carrying a smorgasbord-like array of red and black fruits, chocolate, dried flowers, spicy oak, and damp earth. It's not a powerhouse in the style of Trotanoy, Vieux Château Certain, or say, Clinet, but is all about finesse, elegance, and complexity. This magical Pomerol will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and cruise for 20-30 years in cold cellars. March 2023
