Very good deep red. Redcurrant, plum and saddle leather on the nose, along with a faint horsiness. Not especially fat but offers lovely silky sweetness and very good flavor delineation. A classy vintage of La Lagune, finishing with very good grip and persistence. Drink over the next eight to ten years.

Fully mature, the 1985 La Lagune has a dark plum color and a sweet nose of plums, cherries, and licorice intermixed with some toasty new oak. Always open-knit, somewhat too obvious, but tasty, in a medium-bodied, moderately weighty style, this soft, supple-textured wine is best drunk over the next 3-5 years. Last tasted, 12/02.
