Tasting Notes and Scores
This shows an enchanting nose of roses, violets and other flowers. It's also fruity but very subtle. A full-body, super-structured red with an excellent backbone of ripe yet firm tannins. Goes on for minutes. Don’t touch for five or six years. Try in 2019.

Another great success from proprietress Caroline Frey, the 2010 La Lagune provides an essential drinking experience, with notes of Asian plum sauce, mulberries, kirsch liqueur and black currants. The wine also exhibits a savory, rich smokiness and subtle lead pencil shaving notes. Full-bodied and pure, combining both elegance and power, this is a brilliant, very approachable effort that should hit its stride in 5-7 years and last for at least two decades. Think of it as a hypothetical blend of the 2005 and 2009. Kudos! Drink: 2018 - 2038

The 2010 La Lagune has more clarity and delineation than the 2009 on the nose: intense blackberry, briary, crushed stone and a touch of graphite. These are the best aromatics on a La Lagune…so far. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and a keen line of acidity that combines to manifest a serious and complex La Lagune; sophisticated with layers of mineral-rich black fruit. I love the focus here and the way it just lingers in the mouth long after the wine has departed. It is certainly a long-term proposition and I would start broaching this from 2022 onwards. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château. www.vinous.com

Bright ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of raspberry syrup, kirsch, dried flowers and cedary, nutty oak. Large-scaled, plush and deep, conveying superb velvety richness of texture without obvious heaviness. This opulent wine finishes with big, sweet tannins, a note of chocolate, and lively notes of mint and herbs. Fat, sexy and flamboyant.

3rd Growth Haut Médoc (35hl/ha. 50% New, 50%GV, 14.5%) [52CS/35M/10PV] Lovely ripe fruit and marked pebbly minerality; beautifully constituted, rich, fairly full wine with a very fine tannin and lively acidity; sweet cored and fresh, a delicious dry-yet-ripe claret fruit, long, close knit and elegant, with a superb crispness and definition; complex, aromatic, complete, almost bitter chocolatey on its very long finish. First rate La Lagune, which should be accessible in the not too long term. Intensity without force. 2020-35+ [M.Schuster, Bordeaux Mar/Apr 2011]

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 la Lagune springs from the glass with scents of baked plums, boysenberries and dried mulberries plus touches of underbrush, damp soil and a medicinal waft. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a good amount of savory, muscular fruit with chewy tannins and an invigorating finish.

This is tangy, with red currant, roasted mesquite, sanguine and tobacco notes. Already shows range and definition, with solid grip. —J.M.

(a blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 10% petit verdot; 13.8% alcohol) Bright dark red. Knockout nose combines raspberry, violet, spicy oak, minerals and dried herbs. Wonderfully tangy and delineated, with excellent thrust and concentration to its blackberry and sweet spice flavors. Still, this comes across as a bit youthfully closed and hiding as much as it's showing today. Finishes long and scented, with substantial but fine tannins. Combining finesse with power, this very impressive La Lagune ought to age very well, and my guess is that it will develop significant complexity.

Dark crimson. Some overripe notes on the nose but nice ripe tannins underneath. Quite a battle going on here! Tight, dry finish. The merest hint of wet fur. Every ounce squeezed out of the fruit! Just a little heat on the end. Tastes slightly right-bank. (JR)
