Tasting Notes and Scores

92 NM

This showed impressively at en primeur and after bottling, it does not disappoint and was tangibly superior to the ’04. It has a lovely minerally nose with strawberry, cassis and blueberry tinged with a touch of sous-bois from the Cabernet Sauvignon. It is primal and broody. The palate is full-bodied with a certain plump quality to it, very good weight, rounded supple tannins, with a chunky blackberry finish with touches of cassis. This should turn out to be a very elegant Saint Emilion from this property off the radar of many. Drink 2011-2018. Tasted November 2008.

Totally closed at present, this 2006 reveals notions of crushed rocks, and sweet kirsch and raspberry notes in a medium to full-bodied, elegant style. Its elevated tannins suggest that this wine may not turn out as well as I had hoped. Good purity and potential complexity are there, but the tannins are worrisome. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020?
