Tasting Notes and Scores

92 NM

This showed impressively at en primeur and after bottling, it does not disappoint and was tangibly superior to the ’04. It has a lovely minerally nose with strawberry, cassis and blueberry tinged with a touch of sous-bois from the Cabernet Sauvignon. It is primal and broody. The palate is full-bodied with a certain plump quality to it, very good weight, rounded supple tannins, with a chunky blackberry finish with touches of cassis. This should turn out to be a very elegant Saint Emilion from this property off the radar of many. Drink 2011-2018. Tasted November 2008.

Full red-ruby. Sexy aromas of redcurrant, spicecake, tobacco, loam, licorice and minerals. In a distinctly firm, structured style, with juicy acidity intensifying its dark berry and mineral flavors. But there's also good flesh and sweetness over this wine's firm spine. Spreads out nicely on the lingering finish.

Totally closed at present, this 2006 reveals notions of crushed rocks, and sweet kirsch and raspberry notes in a medium to full-bodied, elegant style. Its elevated tannins suggest that this wine may not turn out as well as I had hoped. Good purity and potential complexity are there, but the tannins are worrisome. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020?

Dark and rich. Toasty sweet on the nose with great opulence and, it would seem, admirable selection. Succulent and round and satin texture. Quite dry tannins are overwhelmed by the ripeness of fruit. SO polished! (JR)
