This has punch and mouth-watering juicy acidities. Cheerful, enticiting, blackberry and loganberry fruits, and all is in place to add on further depth over ageing. There is rusticity that speaks of the vintage, but it is charming and this is easy to recommend. Another great vintage at Ormes de Pez, one of the value wines of the year. 45% new oak.

The 2021 Ormes de Pez is matured in 45% new oak. This has a fragrant nose, very well defined, in fact, perhaps more sophisticated than the Haut-Batailley at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a little powdery in texture, touches of graphite towards the almost Pauillac-like finish. A stylish Saint-Estèphe, this is recommended. 13.13% alcohol.

The 2021 Ormes de Pez is deep, plush, layered and very expressive. Dark cherry, plum and spice open first, followed by bright floral and savory accents that lend vibrancy. There is a bit of graininess in the tannin, but hopefully élevage will polish some of those contours.

The 2021 Ormes de Pez exhibits aromas of cassis, licorice, warm spices and toasty new oak, followed by a medium-bodied, lively and nicely concentrated palate built around rich, powdery tannins that will round out with further maturation in barrel. Produced by the Cazes family of Château Lynch-Bages, it shows promise.

Quite tight, clay nose, dense and mineral with some darker fruit. Firm, dense structure, good weight of fruit which centres on red cherry and leans into black cherry and blackcurrant. A powerful expression of the vintage.

The 2021 Ormes de Pez delivers notes of cassis, pencil shavings and toasty oak, followed by a medium-bodied, suave and polished palate with a nicely concentrated core of fruit framed by tangy acids and sweet, powdery tannins.

Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Smells like claret! Tastes like claret! Or do I mean that I expect St-Estèphe to have lots of acidity?! But there is fruit here, too. Good effort for a wine with a future. Richness, balance and energy. (JR)

Ormes de Pez goes from strength to strength, and this 2021 is a juicy and harmonious wine with bright, focussed fruit and a Merlot-led flavour of plums and mulberries. The Cabernets and Petit Verdot back up the Merlot attack giving this wine more depth and length than expected. I also anticipate it drinking well in its youth, so this is a joyous success in 2021.

49% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet. Distinctively ripe on the nose. Blackberry and blackcurrant. Leaner on the palate but better balanced than some. Dry, taut, a bit austere on the finish. (JH)
