Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2016 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is just as gorgeous from bottle as it was from barrel. The high percentage of Merlot comes through beautifully in the wine's succulent, racy personality. Raspberry jam, mocha, white flowers, spice and blood orange all race through this succulent second wine from Calon Ségur. Best of all, the 2016 will be ready to drink upon release. Tasted three times. - vinous.com, January 2019

Dark berry, tar and stone character. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Balance and intensity. Very pretty density. Pretty fruit. Second wine of Calon.

Tasted out of barrel, the 2016 Calon Ségur Le Marquis de Calon Ségur will be another winner, and it’s more and more apparent that the northern Medoc was a fabulous place to be in 2016. Deep purple-colored, loaded with notions of kirsch, black cherries, scorched earth, and new leather, medium to full-bodied, and downright opulent on the palate, this classy, impeccably balanced 2016 will keep for 10-15 years. - jebdunnuck.com, October 2018,

The 2016 Marquis de Calon-Segur is a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon this year, picked at 42 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 30% new oak. It has an opulent bouquet with blackberry and a smudge of boysenberry jam, perhaps not with the delineation of let's say, the La Dame de Montrose, yet undeniably pure. The palate is medium-bodied with a surprisingly firm structure given the dominance of the Merlot, with grainy tannin and superb freshness. I have a sneaky feeling that this Deuxième Vin might last a lot longer than people will allow it.
